Olive Oil With Honey Hair Mask for Dry Hair

Right now I’m all on board with making sure I combat dry hair and get soft natural hair instead.  I have found some moisture rich oils to work with and experimenting has been key to that.  I have curls that tend to be soft when I take care of them and just plain mean when I neglect them.  I’ve been able to wear a lot of protective hair styles to get me through Old Man Winter.dry-natural-hair-mask

Since I can not find any natural hair salons around (to get my deep conditioning mask), I have taken to working it all on my own at home.  I realize that experimenting is not for everyone.  Some people don’t have the time to go through all that work.  Myself included, I get lazy at times!  I like to share my discoveries and make it easier on you to try the hair masks out for your dry hair.

With honey being sticky, I was a bit antsy about putting it into my scalp.  But fear not! Here is the simple deep conditioning recipe that I used. Continue reading

Do you Straighten your Natural Hair?

Dear Jane and Jedi:

I am a natural lady and I was wondering what your experience is with flat irons?  Do you straighten your natural hair?  If so, I have thick, coarse, hair and was wondering what flat irons work best!  I am almost at the point of giving up.  I went on Youtube and saw the Milstan Feather Flat Iron!  It looks great and probably something that can handle my coarse, thick hair.  Help! Any opinions will be really appreciated.

Thanks is advance,

Abigail

Natural hair straightener

To elaborate on the message we sent back to Abigail…

Straightening natural hair is something that is feared by many ladies who are in the process of keeping their hair in a non-manipulated state.  Personally, I like to have a straightening session to get that length check and trim away those spit ends.  With that said, it’s been more than 8 months since I last used some heat!  Continue reading

Tumblr Thursday: Natural Couples

This goes out to the natural hair females and males in various styles and colors of love.  Love is loving each other through the knots and the tangles and knowing that you can come just as you are.  It’s a beautiful thing to see couples embracing something that makes them relate.  On that same note, it’s a beauty to see those couples who mingle with contrasts and differences.  We don’t all have to like the same things but it’s serious, as hot fire, that respect should be served in acknowledging “different strokes for different folks”.

Whether you wear it long like Goldilocks or short and sweet, it’s the grooming that counts.  No one wants to be near a 4- -month-going-on-6-never-been-washed-hair!  Continue reading

The Big Chop: Going from Goldilocks to Gollum….

Did you do a big chop in the past or did you do it more recently?  We are looking to publish your experience going from Goldilocks luscious length to Gollum’s shiny scalp top.

It doesn’t mean that your hair was so long (like Goldilocks) that you tripped over it.  It just has to have been a length that you had to downsize on.  It also doesn’t mean that your BC was so extreme that people asked you if you did a laser hair removal!!  It just has to have been a length that was significant enough from your usual length.  Doing a BC is dramatic but Continue reading
